An ominous visitor arrives.
Orhan (Orhan Günsiray) risks his life to search for the murderer.

Beginning and ending on a movie set, Aydin Arakon’s Ölüm Film Çekiyor (US: Death Makes a Movie) is a late Turkish noir set among the excitement of Yeşilçam, Turkey’s version of Hollywood. Orhan Günsiray plays Orhan, a popular film actor whose latest production is interrupted by the murder of a young, aspiring actress on set. The film follows Orhan as he investigates the crime for himself, leading him to dark mansions, torture chambers, car chases, gun fights, and two men shoved over a cliff; indeed, the film offers a mixture of action, escape, mystery, and occasional flashes of horror. Arakon goes heavy on the low-key lighting we’ve come to expect from great noir (note the basement hostage scenes, particularly when the door at the top of the stairs opens to what looks like hell), while some may find the film hampered by the jagged editing so common to Turkish films of the era.
