Probably most remembered for its powder room robbery by two men wearing wigs and evening gowns, No Questions Asked is one of only three feature films directed by Harold Kress, whose award-winning career as a film editor spanned more than four decades. Barry Sullivan stars as Steve Keiver, an insurance company attorney who works with thieves and gangsters to recover stolen property and earn commissions from his employer with “no questions asked.” Despite warnings from his boss, Henry Manston (Moroni Olsen), and close monitoring by police inspector Matt Duggan (George Murphy), Keiver flies too close to the criminal sun and ends up double-crossed and running for his life. Torn between two women, Keiver’s financial ambitions are sparked by his desire for the self-centered, money-hungry Ellen Sayburn (Arlene Dahl), while he too easily overlooks the genuine affection of co-worker Joan Brenson, played by the fantastic Jean Hagen, fresh off her standout performance in The Asphalt Jungle (1950).
