He Wrote the Book on Film Noir

An Interview with Foster Hirsch

For many of us, film scholar and author Foster Hirsch was the first voice that inspired our love of film noir. That’s why it was such an honor to interview Hirsch about film noir in the 1950’s in light of his latest book, “Hollywood and the Films of the Fifties.”

We discuss the evolution of noir, the pressures on studios, and plenty of favorite films, including Sudden Fear, Cause for Alarm, Storm Warning, Odds Against Tomorrow, The Night of the Hunter, and others.
